SWISStours · Valid across Switzerland
The Swiss Travel Pass gives unlimited travel on trains, buses and scheduled boats across Switzerland for 3, 4, 6, 8 or 15 days, with Rigi and 500+ museums included. Pick it if Lake Lucerne is one stop on a longer Swiss trip and you want to step on any SGV boat without buying a ticket.

For a Lake Lucerne trip, the boats are the headline. SGV lists all its scheduled services as free with the Swiss Travel Pass: the paddle steamers, the motor ships, the 1-hour catamaran from Pier 3 and the long run to Flüelen. You walk on at Pier 1, 2 or 3 outside Lucerne station on any day of validity. The Flex version works the same way on the days you activate. Trips up Rigi, Stoos and the Stanserhorn are included as well, and the listing adds free entry to over 500 museums.
Some things sit outside it. Lunch, dinner, fondue and event cruises are priced separately; the pass covers the boat ride on regular courses only. Pilatus needs a discounted mountain ticket even with the pass: Pilatus Railways says the boat and bus of the Golden Round Trip are free, but the mountain part is not. Panoramic trains such as the Glacier Express and Bernina Express need a paid seat reservation. Other mountain railways are discounted, and the listing gives "up to 50%" for those.
Two types are sold: Continuous, which runs on consecutive days from your start date, and Flex, where you pick your travel days within a period. Each day runs from midnight to midnight. Children up to 15 travel free with their parents, per the listing. The GetYourGuide confirmation is not the pass: SWISStours emails the digital ticket within 24 hours, and that is what you show on board.
Continuous for back-to-back travel days; Flex if you will stay put for some days. Then pick 3, 4, 6, 8 or 15 days.
SWISStours sends the actual pass with its QR code. The booking confirmation alone is not valid on board.
Activate your travel days online before you travel, as the provider's email explains. Continuous starts on its own.
Pier 1 for Weggis and Vitznau, Pier 2 for Alpnachstad, Pier 3 for Küssnacht and Bürgenstock. No boat ticket needed on scheduled courses.
Ride to Vitznau and up Rigi on the pass. For Pilatus, buy the discounted mountain ticket.
★★★★★Loved having the Swiss Travel Pass. Made it so easy to hop on and hop off boats, buses, and trains. We definitely got our money out of our pass as we traveled through Switzerland for 8 days!
★★★★★Getting the Swiss Travel Pass was the best choice! It covers all transportation within Switzerland and admission to many museums, but the best part was saving time by not having to keep buying tickets! [...]
